Abstract
This work explores Twitter's use in the frame of electoral campaign for the presidency of Mexico in 2012, guided by two essential questions: who tweeted and to whom where addressed the tweets?, what was tweeted? The aim is to contribute in the reflection concerning new ways of social action and public opinion production, closely linked with the web social networks, among which stands out creation of #YoSoy132 movement. Seen as a whole, the effervescence of the electoral topic in Twitter —some of whose trending topics established the media agenda of the political contest— reveals the interest of a mostly young population ready to exploit the still insufficient but the progressive potential of the web in order to express their requirements of a real democracy.
